W8 Side tables by Alain Gilles for Ligne Roset

The W8 side tables, as hinted at by their names (pronounced ‘weight’ in English) are a work on weight and stability, or instability.

Designed by Alain Gilles

Client - Ligne Roset

They are a discussion between visual weight and effective weight, as well as between graphic fragility and graphic mass since each element is visually treated in a distinct manner.

A work on a table structure that would never be stable because of its large rounded curves at the base and that only becomes stable thanks to the mass made up by the carved stone that acts as ballast. The stone is a Pietra Serena; an Italian gray sandstone used extensively in Renaissance Florence for architectural details
