Our creative process is definitely inspired by our humour and by laughing a lot | why the friday

why the friday is a german design studio which is primarily specialised in modern an minimalistic product and interior design. So why are they called "why the friday?" well they would be happy to explain that to you during your first meeting with them!

Q. Why did you get into Interior Design?

A. Why not?

Q. How did you start up your career?

A. We started by working as freelancers for different design companies and architecture offices to get some experience and after having some beers together one night, we decided it would be much more exciting creating our own stuff. So we worked hard on it with lots of enthusiasm and motivation - and now we are here answering your questions!

Q. Where does your inspiration come from?

A. It´s always important to us being inspired by the combination of our client, their project idea and the location they want us to work on. It´s accumulation of many different factors. Our creative process is definitely inspired by our humour and by laughing a lot, but of course we´re having fights at the same time concerning the design decisions - that is what makes us think our work trough!

Q. Can you tell us about a significant accomplishment or project that you regard as notable?

A. The biggest challenge for us, is to give small spaces a perfect usage with maximum efficiency. Sometimes it´s tough to react to all conditions with a design in existing locations on the one hand and the customer´s wishes on the other hand. It´s our intention to coordinate optimal function with good design!

Q. Where would you like to see your company in 5 years from now?

A. Growing slowly! We´d like to work for bigger companies or business chains. It would be cool working on projects in more different cities, but we think it´s great to have a good local network at the same time! But the most important thing is not losing our sense of humour even in stressful times!

Q. What project(s) are you working on at the moment?

A. At the moment we are finishing a shop for men cosmetics in Darmstadt - it´s called Woodberg - the great opening takes place on second weekend of July. If you are interested in our friends, you can have a look at their online shop: www.woodberg.de. Furthermore we are working on an office design for a video production company in Darmstadt and we´re working on different furniture designs.

Q. How do you think an Interior Designer should dress?

A. Everyone should dress like he wants to - but aesthetically would be nice!

Q. If you could design anything, what would it be?

A. We already designed a Bar + Restaurant where we can eat and drink, we developed some shop designs where we can buy nice things, so a hotel to sleep in and a club where to party would be perfect!

Q. If you could design anything, what would it be?

A. No special orientation - but we like good drinks, food of high quality and nice people!

Q. Can you give us a statement about Design

A. Good design hast to be simple!

Q. If you could describe your designs related to food, what would it be and why?

A. … a little bit of everything.

Q. What do you think of the design trends in the future?

A. We think that trends will always come and go and will always be reinterpreted, but the question is, if you have the guts to buck the trend or even create a new one!

Q. Who is your favourite Designer and why?

A. We both like people who say what they think and are honest with themselves - it´s not important to know every designer´s name or their products - even if many people think so!

Q. In which country would you like to have your project in?

A. There are many beautiful countries where we would like to have a project to work on - it´s important to meet people who fancy design, no matter in which country!

Q. What element of a design is the most important thing to you?

A. Interaction and weighing of materials, light, colour and form leads to a good design!

Q. What is your favourite cocktail?

A. Menu up, menu down - it should hammer for the main …
