Smart Living in Upper West by Metaphor Interior Architecture

Designed to become the integrated one stop living environment, Upper West show flats and marketing gallery embody the dynamics of urban and smart living. Variety of show flats can be seen in each of the design approach. We have designed a refined industrial-inspired SOHO (Small Office Home Office) Show Flat. Exposed bricks and muted neutral colour palette adds warmth for the workers who use the space for living at the same time. For family, there is a bigger show flat on the last type that use mixed use material, exuding elegance.

We decided to create three different show flats catered to separate market segment. Located in BSD, Serpong, this development is part of bigger project where it positions the neighbourhood to be a one-stop mixed use development. Securing this agile trend, we provide refined industrial setting for this show flat. One of them uses bricks to provide rawness element into the interior while keeping it modernized with raw materials that have been refined to make it timeless and long last. In the living room, leather material accentuates the overall feel to make working and living become more pleasant than ever.

Another type is to provide compact living in minimal space. The available space in ensured that apartment owners can enjoy primary and complimentary features of what an ideal abode should be. Folding bed and glass partition are chosen to make the area space-efficient. Overall neutral and earthy tones exude warmth and comfort, complimented with elements of refined industrial setting

Last type of the show unit is catered for a complete smart living, supported with digital innovations as aligned with the concept undergone by the property developer. We carried on with timeless design elements, compact amenities and ultimately, add luxurious touch across the living space. Neutral tones are complimented with mixed elements of natural and brass accent, to ultimately provide comfort living.

Aesthetics & Spatial Design

Given the size as big as 1010 m2, we started getting involved in this development from the start. The challenge includes their fast-paced schedule with short timeline to be involved with property developer’s spatial planning from the beginning. Based on the needs of having both marketing gallery and show units, we went through several revisions to achieve the most efficient layout. Although the establishment may not be permanent, the life span of the area is intended to be lively to attract incoming visitors to the marketing gallery and show units.

While the area may seem big, it was not luxurious due to the needs of zoning. The area includes marketing gallery, three types of show units, material area, audio room and also portfolio room.

The highlights of the space entails in the show units, which target various market segment and hence depict different mood for the living setting. First one is designed to live and work in one abode place. We use exposed bricks to provide rawness element into the interior while keeping it modernized with raw materials. In the living room, leather material accentuates the overall feel to make working and living become more comfortable. Another one is for individuals who are single and looking for minimalist living. Due to the limited space, we chose foldable bed that can be stored compactly to maximise the space for other use while not in use. Lastly, the bigger space is designed to cater to family living in smart living environment.

Realisation Efficiency

With the start of early involvement in the project, we got to explore the various steps and well-planned process in ensuring the space of over a thousand square metre will be space-efficient. With the brief of having three different types of show units, we wanted to create a well-connected space between the marketing gallery and show units. We wanted to create an experience centre where visitors could come in and go through each zone with provoking experience. With the intention of having innovative yet inspired by modern industrial theme, we incorporated modern elements that evoke industrial look as intended. We used coloured perforated wall as the treatment to achieve the design intent.

Given the designate space, to achieve smart living concept, we only implemented the application of space-efficient furniture such as foldable bed and dining table for compact living.

Well-being & environmental considerations

To implement a more feasible design to not only budget-savvy cost but also provide aesthetically pleasant spaces, we alternated some materials to fulfill the goals. The use of marble material was replaced with homogeneous tile that is marble-patterned. We also played around by using glass sliding door to present a rather more spacious living in a compact apartment.

Use of product technologies

The central system with air conditioning and operational will become innovative living that will essentially apply to smart living. This then is reflected in the usage of timeless design. The chosen materials, colours and patterns are ensured to be ever-lasting and does not age with time.

One of them is the time management where we as designers have to consider operational and business needs well to achieve the business target. It is the parameter of successful project that can determine the good design. The timeline was very tight as the necessity to produce 3d perspective once the design is locked for the developer to make use of the marketing tools. With short timeline to be involved with property developer’s spatial planning from the beginning, we went through several revisions to achieve the most efficient layout for both the marketing gallery and show units.
