Epoch Academy + Salon by Birdhouse design

Epoch Academy + Salon is a new hairdressers training academy located along the street front at the Shanghai Fashion Center, an historic building originally built in 1929 - destroyed during the war, since restored and transformed into a fashion, art and design cultural hub.

Functioning primarily as an academy though also as hair salon, it is designed to be both practical and inspiring - playful and explorative, and above all encouraging the students who come here to push their own creativity and find their own style.

Featuring center pivoting mirrored doors, mirrored walls and dichroic glass pops in a predominantly monochrome palette, the space is an ever changing perspective of environment, creating unexpected views and colours as one moves throughout.

As per Clients' request, there are visual and informational connections between the classrooms and the exterior, by way of dichroic glass cut outs and center pivoting doors that can rotate to display teachers' diagrams to those passing by.
