Danish artist - Asmund Havsteen-Mikkelsen has created a full-sized replica of Le corbusier’s iconic Villa Savoye for the Floating Art Festival 2018 organized by Denmark’s Vejle Art Museum. The art installation- ‘flooding modernity’ is half-sunk at the Vvejle fjord, which is on view until September 2.

The project is a critical comment on the current status of Modernity after the scandals of Cambridge Analytica, the Trump election, and Brexit.

For Asmund Havsteen-Mikkelsen, the Villa Savoye is a symbol of Modernity and Enlightenment. It represents the belief in the critical powers of the human mind in relation to progress and in our use of criticality in the public sphere.

After these scandals, the artist thinks that our sense of democracy and the public sphere has been distorted through the new use of digital technologies to manipulate elections. The society's sense of Modernity has been 'flooded'. Asmund Havsteen-Mikkelsen senses the need to 're-state' people's political institutions - because the old ones have 'sunk'.
