DesignLSM, have recently completed the interior for Burger & Lobster – Bryant Park, helping to bring the popular casual dining concept to New York’s theatre district.

Following the success of their first outpost in Flatiron, the new 146-cover restaurant situated within the first floor of the Stephen Sondheim Theatre offers a dedicated restaurant and bar space perfect for pre & post theatre dining.
DesignLSM’s brief was to tailor the existing Burger & Lobster model to suit its new locality, ensuring that the new design scheme would appeal to New Yorkers and tourists within the Bryant park neighbourhood. We worked closely with the client and US advertising agency Van’s General Storeto incorporate the playful essence of the brand into the space.
The building retains its existing façade, which dates back to the early 1900s allowing the original architecture to blend seamlessly into the contemporary scheme.
On arrival into the restaurant, hungry diners are led through a striking 19m-entrance tunnel decorated with steel lobster traps and abundant displays of planting. The lobby area holds a warm and inviting ambience featuring white ceramic tiles, neon signage and the iconic lobster tanks allowing guests to see the ‘the stars of the show’ before heading upstairs into the main restaurant space.
A dramatic ceiling sculpture commissioned by local artist Robert Lazarrini takes centre stage in the restaurant, the evocative artwork ‘nods’ to the provenance of the brand depicting elements of lobster and cuts of the cow. Bespoke design features include; lighting schemes that emulate stage lighting, illustrative wallpaper and quotes from notable playwrights displayed across bold neon signage, all helping to evoke the drama and ambience of the theatre district.
The private dining room dressed with aged leather seats, glazed screens and festoon lighting offers an intimate, social space suitable for business lunches and celebratory dinners.
DesignLSM have worked with Burger & Lobster on all of their restaurants in the UK and Internationally, helping to establish the unique brand through signature interior design elements in each of their hugely popular restaurants.
“We are thrilled to be part of the successful Burger & Lobster story and have loved assisting the brand with their ever-expanding portfolio of restaurants. The second site in New York was a great challenge for us to create a diverse and engaging site, which pays homage to the brand and the true spirit of Broadway.” -Andrew Harwood, Projects Director
