Bernard Space Design was founded by Zhang Zhi-wen in 2008, he leads his team to a committed field of commercial space, retail fashion brand space and corporate office space projects. This week he tells us how design trends should be associated with science and technology and where his inspiration comes from.
Q. Why did you get into Interior Design?
A. It's an interesting industry which can realise our own ideas.
Q. How did you start up your career?
A. I came to Shenzhen and engaged in space design industry after graduation, had the honour to get in touch with some predecessors in plans and brands, who had a great impact on my following design career.
Q. Where does your inspiration come from?
A. I don't think space design relies on inspiration, but teasing out logically. If I have to say, then inspiration is from things I've learned about life while teasing out logically.
Q. Can you tell us about a significant accomplishment or project that you regard as notable?
A. Now design trend changes fast, we have good projects every year, but my comments on them will probably be different next year.
Q. Where would you like to see your company in 5 years from now?
A. The social development is rapid, we try to take some challenging projects which are cross-border partially in order to be adapted to the drastic changes after 5 years.
Q. What project(s) are you working on at the moment?
A. 4-5 projects on hands, about high-end retail space, an exhibition hall, furniture brand store, etc.
Q.How do you think an Interior Designer should dress?
A. I personally prefer natural and heavy texture, but clean and tidy first. An interior designer should dress in his/her own style.
Q. If you could design anything, what would it be?
A. A small club of my own, design at my wishes unrestrainedly.
Q. What type of restaurant would you choose to go to for dinner?
A. I prefer to have dinner in restaurants with different styles.
Q. Can you give us a statement about Design?
A. This is a big question, I think design is a means to change life and embody value.
Q. If you could describe your designs related to food, what would it be and why?
A. Maybe, coffee, as our works generally pursue comfort and reflection.
Q. What do you think of the design trends in the future?
A. The future design trend must be associated with the progress of science and technology, and new experience mode and new materials will make the future interior design more experiential and ornamental.
Q. Who is your favourite Designer and why?
A. I like Zaha Hadid and Kengo Kuma, Zaha's work is futuristic, and Kengo Kuma's work is reliable and practical.
Q. In which country would you like to have your project in?
A. The country where a project locates in doesn't matter, what matters is a superior client of good taste to cooperate.
Q. What element of a design is the most important thing to you?
A. They can't be ranked, a design work is like a beauty, colour is her skin, size is her figure, and light is the environment when she appears, so each element is important. We all know that beauties should have a good temperament, these elements are the main elements to build that.
Q. What is your favourite cocktail?
A. I don't like cocktail.
