The architects Oliver Franz Schmidt, Natali Canas del Pozo and Lucas Echeveste Lacy form El Equipo Creativo - an interior design studio based in Barcelona and specialised in the interior design of gastronomic, commercial and brand flag spaces.

2010 was their milestone year, with the interior design for the emblematic restaurant Tickets and the 41º cocktail bar from Ferran and Albert Adriá. Since then their projects have been recognised in numerous international interior design awards, as well as getting published in paper and web publications in more than twenty countries!

Q: Why did you get into Interior Design?

A: I’m an architect. Interior Design was the logical step towards a more detailed and atmospheric approach to architecture.

Q: How did you start up your career?

A: First learning a lot from others, teachers or architecture offices.  Then taking risks and starting our own studio.

Q: Where does your inspiration come from?

A: Art, craftsmanship, films, music, etc.

Q: Can you tell us about a significant accomplishment or project that you regard as notable?

A: Pakta Restaurant, one of our first projects, could be a good example of  the philosophy and methodology of EL EQUIPO CREATIVO.

Q: Where would you like to see your company in 5 years from now?

A: The ideal situation would be the company moving forward in a good phase, so that all our work time could be dedicated specifically to projects.

Q: What project(s) are you working on at the moment?

A: One of the most exciting ones is a 88 room Hotel in Madrid with several food and beverage spaces, opening very soon…

Q: How do you think an Interior Designer should dress?

A: As he or she likes, just as anybody else.

Q: If you could design anything, what would it be?

A: Stenography for the concert of one of my favourite music bands.

Q: What type of restaurant would you choose to go to for dinner?

A: Any restaurant with a good food and design… and most important, with good friends.

Q: If you could describe your designs related to food, what would it be and why?

A: Each of our spaces would be different, because each of our design try to explore the essence of our client’s specific briefings and needs. In any case, restaurants try not to be too bitter…

Q: What do you think of the design trends in the future?

A: I try not to pay much attention to trends. I am more interested in giving interesting and original responses and solutions.

Q: Who is your favourite Designer and why?

A: One of my favourites is Kengo Kuma, a real “crack” in the creation of atmospheres and the use of materials. He can build huge scale buildings or minimum scale interiors with the perfect combination of sophistication and craftsmanship. Also he surprises us with every new project. In EL EQUIPO CREATIVO we share his approach to design and philosophy 100%.

Q: In which country would you like to have your project in?

A: I love Japan. It would be a great challenge to build a project there.

Q: What element of a design is the most important thing to you?

A: Colour, size, lighting - all of them together, but also one protagonist element at a time. In EL EQUIPO CREATIVO we try to push to the limits one specific element in each of our projects, could be a material, a texture, a change in scale, etc.

Q: What is your favourite cocktail?

A: Bloody Mary... A very aesthetic cocktail with a “storytelling” name.
