Elementary School Dom Bosquinho by Shieh Arquitetos Associados

The design of this elementary school takes advantage mainly of the gentle site slope. While the main collective activities occur at level 0,00 (entrance, patio, cafeteria, stage), the 12 classrooms were accommodated at level +1,35m – from where they can relate to the gardens and external terraces. On the upper floor (+3,20m), special activities take place (music room, arts room, reading area, dance room, playroom, computer room). The split-level condition is solved with ramps and supplementary stairs, all around the central patio.

The central patio is designed as a main focal point for the school, with abundant natural lighting and cross-ventilation. Every circulation between classrooms happens around the patio.

The west façade, strongly sun-bathed in Piracicaba – São Paulo is protected with micro-perforated louvers, distant 2 meters from the windows. This protection and the long eave from the roof above, serve as shelter for the drop-off/pick-up area.
