A Narrow House in New York City

Architecture practice Grzywinski + Pons turned a house located on a typically gritty block on the Lower East Side of Manhattan into a contemporary apartment and studio building.

The structure on 120 Allen street houses four apartments and sixteen studios, which were also furnished by the practice. The building’s main feature is its facade, which is divided into two parts: the lower part consists of brick with masonry details, paying homage to the surrounding area, while the upper part is comprised of zinc panels that create a unique interplay of shadows. As for the interior, the architects decided on exposed walls and a steel structure.
