Award winning retail jewellery store - Hugh Rice by Innovare Design, Beverley - East Yorkshire

Jewellery retailer Hugh Rice, are celebrating the complete refurbishment and re-launch of their fine jewellery and watch boutique in Beverley, East Yorkshire. Located in the Toll Gavel district of this historic medieval market town, the store first came to prominence back in 2013, when it won Built Heritage development of the year in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The recent refurbishment of this 17th Century Grade II listed building is the latest in a series of successful collaborations with retail design consultants, Innovare Design, and follows the launch of Luxe by Hugh Rice, a new store concept, which opened to rave reviews last year in Beverley’s Saturday Market.

Hugh Rice Managing Director Paul Rice commented, “We operate in both the luxury and lifestyle jewellery sectors but with limited space at our Toll Gavel store, we needed to rethink our business strategy. We launched Luxe by Hugh Rice last year, aimed at a younger more brand-orientated customer but still focussed on delivering our renowned quality and personal service. This then gave us the opportunity to refocus our Toll Gavel boutique, both in terms of our fine jewellery and watch assortment as well the shopping experience itself.”

The brief to Innovare Design was clear – to reinforce the Hugh Rice brand as one of the best retail jewellers in the sector. The result at Toll Gavel is an intimate and discreet atmosphere in which to shop for some of the finest jewellery and Swiss watches available.

“It’s all about the details”, said Innovare Design’s Creative Director, Lloyd Blakey. “Our overall store design reflects the precious materials and fine craftsmanship on display. A rich colour palette of warm grey, satin brass and dark bronze runs throughout the store. We’ve opened up sight lines by removing walls and accentuated the new spacious feel with a lime-washed oak herringbone plank floor bordered by a sumptuous silver grey carpet. Lighting plays an important part in creating the right ambience – we’ve introduced dramatic, glittering chandeliers in the entrance atrium to herald a sense of arrival and carried these through into the double-height ceiling at the center of the store. Elsewhere, delicate cut-glass pendants provide focus and intimacy over private consultation desks. Great care has been taken with product display lighting to avoid excess glare and the window displays are all colour balanced to maximize the impact both inside and out. The new paneled walls lead you through the space and feature framed niche displays. These create focus as well as flexibility to accommodate a developing brand assortment. In addition, a specially designed range of freestanding and window display cabinets maintain a unique feel and allow for multiple brand displays to reflect the diversity and choice from Hugh Rice.”
